FAAN Gives Update On Fire Incident At Murtala Muhammed International Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

In a statement issued via its official X handle on Monday, FAAN disclosed that its firefighting unit swiftly moved to the scene and was actively working to contain the blaze. The authority reassured the public that no casualties had been recorded at the time of the announcement.

Eyewitness accounts described heavy smoke and confusion within the terminal earlier in the day, prompting emergency response measures and the orderly evacuation of passengers and airport personnel.

To reinforce containment efforts, FAAN said it activated mutual aid arrangements, calling for additional support from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, alongside other relevant emergency agencies.

“We wish to reassure the public that no loss of life has been recorded at this time, and all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property,” FAAN stated, adding that further verified updates would be communicated as the situation develops.

Emergency operations were ongoing as of press time, with authorities focused on fully containing the fire and restoring normal activities at the airport.
