Dickson Awolaja Advocates Urgent Action On Kidnapping, Power Outrage In Remo North During Parliamentary Sitting
2 min readIn a passionate plea during the parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, the honourable legislative member representing Remo North at the Ogun State 10th Assembly, Hon. Dickson Awolaja Kolawole has called upon security agencies to address the escalating issue of kidnapping in his constituent. The situation has been a cause of grave concern, prompting the legislator to raise his voice in pursuit of immediate action.
During his address to the parliament, Awolaja emphasized the urgent need for security agencies to prioritize the safety and well-being of the people of Remo North. He shed light on the recent surge in kidnapping incidents, citing numerous instances, especially the Sapaade road that leads to Lagos Ibadan highway that have instilled fear and insecurity among residents.
The legislative member expressed his distress over the devastating impact of kidnapping on families and the local community. With each passing day, the problem has grown more severe, prompting the lawmaker to rally for an immediate response from the appropriate authorities.
Awolaja stated, “Our constituents are living in constant fear, with kidnapping incidents on the rise. Families are being torn apart, and the sense of security has been shattered. It is our duty as representatives to ensure that the people we serve can live without fear and can go about their daily lives without the looming threat of abduction.”
Drawing attention to the importance of a comprehensive and coordinated effort, Awolaja called for enhanced intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and improved security measures in the region. He stressed that only through collaborative efforts between the various security agencies can this menacing issue be curbed effectively.
In the same vein, Awolaja passionately appealed to the government to ensure a constant and reliable power supply in the region. The call comes as a proactive measure to avoid potential generator accidents that have become a pressing concern for the constituent.
He highlighted the recent hazardous consequence that generator caused to five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade.
He stressed that many residents have resorted to using generators as an alternative source of power. Unfortunately, this has led to an increasing number of accidents and incidents related to generator usage.
“Five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade slept in a room and had their generator on overnight. On waking up, three of the students already passed on. The remaining two were rushed to the hospital, and a few hours later, the fourth one passed on. The autopsy report indicated that they died of generator fumes. The consequences of these accidents have been devastating, causing loss of lives and damage to property,” the legislator narrated.
Awolaja further emphasized that a continuous power supply would not only mitigate the risks associated with generators but also enhance the overall quality of life for the people of Remo North. With consistent electricity, essential services like healthcare, education, and businesses could function efficiently, contributing to the region’s development and progress.
