Dele Farotimi Released After Meeting N30m Bail Condition
1 min readEmbattled activist lawyer Dele Farotimi has regained his freedom after meeting the ₦30 million bail conditions set by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti.
The news of Farotimi’s release was disclosed by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, who confirmed that Farotimi is on his way back to Lagos.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore wrote: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”
Farotimi had been remanded earlier this month in a correctional centre in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, following allegations of defamation against Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).
The lawyer was accused of defaming Babalola in his book titled Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
He arrived at the Magistrate Court premises on Friday under heavy security at around 9:45 am, where the court granted him bail.
