Coroner Blames Parents, Doctor For Sylvester Oromoni’s Death

1 min read

The Coroner Inquest conducted at the Ogba Magistrate Court to investigate the tragic death of 12-year-old student Sylvester Junior Oromoni from Dowen College, Lekki, has reached a verdict attributing his death to negligence on the part of his parents and doctor.

According to Mikhail Kadiri, the coroner magistrate overseeing the inquest, Sylvester Oromoni’s passing was a consequence of inadequately treated liver enlargement, which ultimately led to his death on November 30, 2021.

Initially, Sylvester’s death was associated with bullying and the ingestion of a suspected toxic substance while he was at school. Allegedly, he mentioned being assaulted by five senior students of Dowen College before his untimely demise. However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government absolved the five Dowen College staff and students who were initially charged in connection with Sylvester Oromoni’s death.

The coroner’s report emphasized that Sylvester’s health deteriorated under the care of a particular doctor, who allegedly neglected to provide adequate attention. It was revealed that the doctor abandoned Sylvester for over 32 hours, contributing to his suffering and eventual demise.

The Coroner, Kadiri, expressed that Sylvester Oromoni’s death was avoidable if proper care had been administered by both his parents and the medical practitioner. He emphasized that the young student endured unnecessary pain due to this neglect.
