BREAKING: I Will Clear My Schedule To Visit Benue People On Wednesday — Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he will adjust his official schedule to visit the people of Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to recent deadly attacks in the region.

Speaking on Monday, the President expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the state, especially after the recent Yelewata massacre, which left over 50 people dead and many others displaced. He emphasized the importance of federal presence during times of crisis and said he would personally meet with the affected communities to assess the situation.

“I have directed the security agencies to move in immediately. But beyond that, I will clear my schedule and be in Benue on Wednesday. Our people must not feel abandoned,” Tinubu stated.

The President’s decision follows mounting public pressure from civil society groups, state leaders, and opposition figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, who criticized the Federal Government’s “silence and inaction” regarding the persistent violence in Benue.

Earlier on Monday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) met with the President at the Villa and assured Nigerians that aggressive security operations had already commenced in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia revealed that 17 local government areas had been under siege, but Federal Government intervention has since reduced active hostilities to three LGAs.

“We welcome the President’s decision to visit. It sends a strong message of solidarity and shows that Benue matters,” Alia said.

The Yelewata killings were carried out by suspected herdsmen who reportedly invaded the community at night, torching homes and shooting residents. Security agencies have launched manhunts and reinforcements have been deployed to the area.
