Attempted Suicide: Police Arrest Man Who Climbed 120ft Mast Over Hardship
1 min readPolice authorities in Abuja have arrested a man who attempted suicide as a protest over the country’s biting socio-economic hardship.
“With much professional persuasion from the police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from taking his own life. He claimed to have been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it. The suspect is presently in police custody and stable condition,” the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command Josephine Adeh said in a late Monday statement.
She said, “Further development will be communicated in due course”.
Shuaibu is the second Nigerian in recent years to have threatened to take his own life over the country’s economic conditions. In 2018, one Nurudeen Lliyasu climbed a telecommunication mast in the nation’s capital, vowing to take his life due to hardship.
