Atiku Congratulates Governors On Supreme Court Victories
2 min readAtiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Vice President, has extended his congratulations to governors whose elections were recently upheld by the Supreme Court. The apex court, in a Friday ruling, affirmed the victories of opposition party governors including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Abba Yusuff (Kano).
In a statement released by his media office on Friday, Atiku Abubakar expressed readiness to lead a coalition of opposition political parties against the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former vice president, who has been advocating for a merger of all opposition political parties, reiterated the importance of unity in challenging the perceived dominance of the ruling party.
Atiku emphasized the need for a united opposition force to counteract what he sees as the APC’s efforts to centralize power, stating, “If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn.”
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s judgments in favor of PDP and New Nigeria Peoples Party governors, Atiku hailed the decisions as a victory for democracy. He specifically congratulated the governors of Bauchi, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, and Zamfara states, affirming that the court’s rulings guarantee the continuation of the standards of good governance established by the PDP in these states.
Atiku called on the respective PDP governors to view their victories as opportunities to consolidate and expand the scope of good governance. With the electioneering phase concluded, he expressed confidence that the PDP can now focus on its role as the major opposition party in the country.
