Adebiyi Adeleye Seeks Ikenne APC, Abiodun’s Support Ahead Of Reps Bye-Election

Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye paid a visit to the Ikenne Local Government chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of his bid for the forthcoming bye-election. The visit was met with a warm reception, further solidifying his support within the party.

He was accompanied by councillors, representatives of the Obas, high chiefs from Remo North, Baales, and party leaders, as well as women and youth leaders. Also, in attendance were union members, local government party executives, the council chairman, the secretary to the local government (SLG), and immediate past council members from Remo North.

As the home local government of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the visit held particular significance. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as party leaders, elders, and stakeholders gathered to express their support for Adeleye’s candidacy.

While addressing the party leaders and executives, Adeleye formally declared his intention to contest the bye-election. He made a heartfelt appeal to both the governor and the party leadership.

“I am here today for two reasons. First, to humbly appeal to Mr. Governor for kind consideration, reflecting on our past, present, and future. Second, to appeal to our leaders to consider me fit and the best among the aspirants for this position.”

His speech resonated with many in attendance, given his track record in the public sector.

Speaking at the event, Evangelist Joshua Ifede criticized the trend of wealthy individuals returning to the country during election periods to pursue public office through financial influence. However, he expressed relief that this time, the situation was different.

“For years, we have seen moneybags from the diaspora bully their way into political offices, sidelining those who have worked at the grassroots level. But today, we are happy that a politician with a solid reputation has stepped forward to rescue us from those who take grassroots politics for granted.”

Another leader, Chief Pegba Otemolu, echoed the need for justice, fairness, and equity, commending the governor and Remo leaders for recognizing that the seat rightfully belongs to Remo North. He stressed that the unfortunate demise of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga automatically qualifies Remo North to produce the next representative. He also referenced the Peperito case in Lagos, where a similar situation led to a fair redistribution of political power between Kosofe and Ikorodu.

Chief Kayode Sodiyan, an apex leader in Ikenne APC, emphasized the importance of experience in this race. He made it clear that among all the aspirants, Adeleye is the most qualified, having served as a local government chairman, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and a special adviser to the governor.

“This is not the time for experimentation. We need someone with experience, someone who understands the system inside out. Hon. Adeleye is the only one who ticks all the boxes,” he declared.
