Abiodun Motivates Super Falcons With N50m Ahead Of Benin Clash
Ahead of the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has boosted the morale of the Super Falcons with a cash gift of N50 million.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement when he received the team in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday. The Falcons are billed to play the second leg of their final WAFCON qualifier at the MKO Abiola International Stadium on Tuesday.
The Super Falcons had earlier defeated the Amazons of Benin Republic 2–0 on Friday, October 24, with goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo in front of Benin’s home crowd.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, Governor Abiodun said the team’s return to the MKO Abiola Stadium was proof that the state was doing something right in sports development. He revealed plans to further upgrade the stadium complex with a five-star hotel, cinema, and shopping centre, among other facilities.
He congratulated the team on their historic 10th WAFCON title won in Morocco, describing their success as a source of national pride and inspiration.
“As you prepare for the match, we will be supporting you. I have no doubt that you will qualify,” the governor said.
“My support today is both appreciation for your last victory and motivation for your next tournament. On behalf of myself, my team, and the entire people of Ogun State, we’ll be giving you a token of N50 million.”

Governor Abiodun added that the Falcons represent more than football, they embody leadership, teamwork, and discipline, inspiring young women across Nigeria to pursue excellence.
“You are showing that what a man can do, a woman can do even better,” he said.
“Through your example, young women will learn to be disciplined, to work as a team, and to aspire to leadership positions.”
In his remarks, Head Coach Justin Madugu appreciated the state government’s hospitality, saying the MKO Abiola Stadium’s world-class facilities make their job easier.
“Each time we come to Abeokuta, we feel at home. The facilities here are top-notch, and the reception is always warm. We are very grateful, Your Excellency,” he said.
Also speaking, Team Captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked the governor for his continuous support and for providing a quality playing environment.
“We truly appreciate your investment in sports and this beautiful turf. We promise to keep making Nigerians proud every time we wear the green and white,” Ajibade said.
