Ogun SWAN Applauds Abiodun, ValueJet, Kunle Soname Over Gateway Airport’s Historic First Flight

The Ogun State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated Governor Dapo Abiodun, ValueJet Airlines, and its Chairman, Otunba Kunle Soname, on the successful operation of the first-ever scheduled commercial flight at the newly commissioned Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Remo.

The landmark flight, which departed for Abuja on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, marked a major milestone in the state’s infrastructural advancement and economic development drive.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, Ogun SWAN commended ValueJet for its pioneering spirit and dedication to expanding Nigeria’s air connectivity—particularly from Ogun State, home to its founder.

“The commencement of commercial flight operations at the Gateway Airport by an indigenous airline, ValueJet, will undoubtedly unlock huge opportunities in commerce, investment, and tourism,” Ogunsiji said.

“This will not only boost socio-economic activities but also enhance sports development by easing logistics for teams and athletes while attracting visitors and enthusiasts to Ogun State.”

He also lauded Governor Abiodun for delivering a world-class aviation facility equipped with one of the longest runways in West Africa, capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft.

Ogun SWAN expressed optimism that the new route will enhance media coverage and promotion of sporting activities within and beyond the Gateway State.

The association wished ValueJet safe skies and continued success in its operations.
