Politics 2027: Yari Named APC Campaign Council DG, Akpabio, Abbas, Uzodimma Get Key Roles 14 hours ago Readership The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed as Director-General. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has been appointed secretary of the campaign council, with APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman serving as deputy and assistant secretaries respectively. The composition of the council, released on Saturday, brings together senior party leaders, governors, lawmakers, political strategists and media professionals as the ruling party begins preparations for the 2027 presidential contest. The council’s advisory body will be chaired by President Tinubu and comprises former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba; Senator Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita Giwa. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed deputy director-generals for the southern and northern parts of the country. They will work alongside Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau. Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, will serve as deputy director-general in charge of mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration as deputy director-general. James Abiodun Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as deputy director-general in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring. Faleke will work with zonal directors, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East. Ms Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori have also been appointed secretaries of the election planning directorate. The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies. Other members include Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh. For media and strategic communication, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, will serve as coordinating director, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu. Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka have been appointed coordinating deputy directors in the media directorate. Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor will serve as coordinating secretaries, while Segun Dada returns as Director of New Media, a position he held during the 2022/2023 campaign. Solomon Arowolo will serve as Secretary of New Media. The campaign council also named five spokespersons, led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda. In his charge to members of the council, President Tinubu urged them to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections. The President also directed leaders of the various directorates to reach out to other party members who were not formally listed but could contribute to the campaign. According to Tinubu, the APC has delivered on its campaign promises and placed the country on the path of economic progress. “As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” the President said. He urged members of the campaign council to work towards defeating opposition forces seeking to return the country to what he described as a period of regression.
