The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ifo Constituency II in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Omotunde Ayoade (JP), has stressed the need for proactive legislative representation amid the boundary row between Ogun and Lagos states around the Yakoyo–Ojodu axis.
Ayoade said the controversy over a signpost bearing the inscription “Welcome To Lagos State” raised important questions about the identity of affected communities, residents’ rights and the protection of Ogun State’s territorial integrity.
He maintained that the situation highlighted the need for a legislator who would do more by actively using legislative instruments to seek answers, engage relevant government agencies and demand action from the executive arm of government.
Ayoade said that, if elected, he would raise the concerns of affected communities through appropriate legislative channels, seek clarification from relevant authorities on the disputed boundary and press for an official determination based on approved survey coordinates and government records.
He added that he would also pursue sustained engagement with relevant ministries and local government authorities to ensure that residents’ interests remained protected and that the matter received the attention it deserved.
“Ifo Constituency II deserves a legislator who will rise to the occasion, ask the necessary questions, demand accountability and follow through until issues affecting our people receive the attention they deserve,” he said.
According to him, effective representation goes beyond occupying a legislative seat to include identifying problems, proposing practical solutions and holding relevant authorities accountable for their responsibilities.
Ayoade called for a peaceful and transparent resolution of the long time boundary disagreement, stressing that the rights and interests of residents must remain paramount.
He is seeking election to represent Ifo Constituency II in the Ogun State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections.
