The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, today held a special memorial parade in honour of the 10 members of the Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) who were killed on the 10th of August in the line of duty while repelling a bandit attack in Rafin Makuku axis, Sakaba LGA in Kebbi State.

The solemn session, held at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, was attended by members of the press and provided an opportunity to honour the fallen officers, who paid the ultimate price in the defence of the nation and the protection of innocent citizens.

The officers were remembered for their courage, gallantry and unwavering commitment to duty, having stood their ground in the face of a deadly bandit assault despite the grave danger confronting them.

Speaking at the event, the IGP expressed his deepest condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the fallen officers, acknowledging the pain and sacrifice that accompanied their loss.

IGP Disu assured the bereaved families that the Nigeria Police Force would not abandon them in their moment of grief, stressing that the Force would provide every necessary support to cushion the impact of their loss and ensure the continuity of their livelihoods.

“We will not abandon you. We understand the sacrifices your loved ones have made, and we will make sure that those sacrifices do not go in vain. I assure Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property in every part of the country.”

The Inspector-General further urged police officers across the federation not to be intimidated by the activities of bandits and other criminal elements, but to remain courageous, professional and resolute in the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He noted that the sacrifice of the fallen officers should serve as a source of inspiration to their colleagues and a reminder of the enormous responsibility entrusted to the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to sustaining the fight against violent crime while strengthening support, welfare and operational capacity for officers serving on the front lines.

As the nation remembers the 10 fallen heroes, the Nigeria Police Force honours their courage and service, while their ultimate sacrifice continues to stand as a solemn reminder of the price paid by those who dedicate their lives to keeping Nigeria safe.
