Bolaji Abdullahi Blames APC For Opposition Party Crises

Former Minister and National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi has issued a scathing critique of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of engineering internal crises within opposition platforms to stifle Nigeria’s democratic space.

In a publication released on Tuesday, Abdullahi pointed to the sudden emergence of a faction within the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as a direct consequence of “state-sponsored” sabotage.

The controversy reportedly began three weeks ago when the leadership of the PRP, led by National Chairman Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

While rumors of a formal coalition were largely speculative, the “mere whiff” of an alliance triggered an immediate leadership challenge against Baba-Ahmed within the PRP, a party historically known for its internal stability.

Abdullahi described the APC’s alleged strategy of sabotaging opposition platforms as “self-destructive” and a “clear threat to national stability.” He argued that by systematically eliminating viable alternatives, the government is leaving the electorate with no real choices, a path he warns could lead to widespread unrest. “A political strategy that is anchored on sabotaging every opposition platform is ultimately self-destructive,” Abdullahi stated, urging moderate voices within the ruling party to caution those “engineering” these crises.

The APC has consistently denied involvement in the internal friction of other parties, often attributing such developments to poor leadership and “anti-democratic practices” within the PDP, LP, and ADC. However, Abdullahi insists that the pattern is visible to the world, suggesting that the shrinking democratic space under the current administration is a deliberate attempt to enforce a one-party state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
