APC Re-Elects Nentawe Yilwatda As National Chairman, Unveils Full NWC List
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman at the party’s 8th National Convention held in Abuja on Friday.
The convention also returned all members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement ratified by an affirmative voice vote. The development signals continuity in the party’s leadership structure ahead of the next political cycle.
According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, the newly elected NWC members were immediately sworn in and are expected to pilot the affairs of the ruling party for the next four years.
Among the key officers are Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori; Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu; National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru; National Financial Secretary, Bashir Gumel; and National Legal Adviser, Murtala Kankia, among others.
Yilwatda, who first assumed office in 2025 following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, retained his position with the backing of party stakeholders. Ganduje himself had succeeded Abdullahi Adamu in 2023 after a similar resignation.
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda pledged to strengthen the party and align its objectives with national development priorities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Our mission is clear. Together, we will build a Pan-African and Pan-Nigerian party that is stronger, transparent, inclusive, more disciplined, and united than ever,” he said.
He promised to deepen internal democracy, strengthen party structures, expand grassroots reach, and empower young people, noting that the youth remain a critical force in the party’s future.
The APC chairman also commended President Tinubu for his leadership and support, expressing optimism about ongoing economic reforms and infrastructure investments across the country.
“I do not see this convention as a crown, but as a duty with the burden of trust of millions of our members,” he added, while assuring members of an open-door leadership style.
Yilwatda further expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.
