Ogun PDP Slams Dapo Abiodun For Poor Roads, Blame-Game Politics

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has taken a swipe at Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing his administration of gross incompetence and failure to fix the state’s deplorable road infrastructure.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the State Chairman, Hon. (Rotn.) Abayomi Tella, the party described Governor Abiodun’s persistent blame of past administrations for the poor condition of roads as “an unending voyage of excuses and irresponsibility.”

According to the PDP, it is “unacceptable and shameful” that after more than six years in office, the governor still finds comfort in shifting blame rather than providing solutions to the infrastructural decay across the state.

“Before now, our party and several residents had repeatedly called the governor’s attention to the terrible state of Ogun roads,” the statement read.
“But due to his deep-seated incompetence and lack of vision, most roads across the state remain impassable, endangering lives and crippling economic activities.”

The opposition party lamented that Ogun, once seen as a gateway state with vast economic potential, now holds “a notorious reputation as the state with the worst road network in Nigeria.”

It added that despite a significant rise in the state’s monthly federal allocations and internally generated revenue, “Ogun roads have become a national embarrassment, frequently mocked across social media platforms.”

The PDP further decried the hardship faced by residents who must endure “avoidable stress and discomfort” due to dilapidated roads in places such as Alagbole, Ijoko, Abeokuta, Ajura, Ayetoro, Ewekoro, and Sango.

“Businesses are struggling to operate because of the high cost of transportation and logistical challenges. The government’s failure to provide motorable roads is strangling economic growth and lowering the quality of life for residents,” the party stated.

The statement reminded Governor Abiodun that governance is a continuum and urged him to “take responsibility instead of playing the blame card.”

“The recent attempt to fault his predecessors is another clear sign of cluelessness and lack of capacity to lead a state as strategic as Ogun,” the PDP said.
“The governor owes the people an unreserved apology and must immediately prioritize the rehabilitation of the bad roads that have brought shame to the state.”

The party concluded that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government had been “a colossal waste of the state’s time and potential,” while reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to standing with Ogun residents until good governance is restored.

“Enough is enough,” the statement added. “The government must act swiftly to rebuild infrastructure, create an enabling environment for businesses, and ensure governance truly works for the benefit of the people.”
