Ogun PDP Accuses Abiodun Of Misusing State Resources For Electoral Gains
In a scathing press statement released today, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, led by Dapo Abiodun, of recklessly using state resources to bolster its electoral chances, Readership NG reports.
The PDP alleges that Abiodun’s administration is more focused on retaining power than addressing pressing public concerns in the state.
Governor Abiodun is facing increasing scrutiny for his administration’s priorities. The PDP argues that the state government should be concentrating on the welfare and needs of the people, rather than engaging in what they perceive as questionable political maneuvers.
The PDP’s concerns stem from what they see as a concerted effort by the Abiodun-led APC government to gather support from various political factions in anticipation of a potential rerun election. The party claims that state resources that could be better allocated to paying workers’ salaries, addressing retiree gratuity, and improving critical infrastructure have instead been diverted to this political effort.
One recent development that has drawn the PDP’s ire is the defection of Chief Derin Adebiyi and members of the SIA political movement to the APC. The PDP alleges that these individuals, like others before them, have joined the government’s table of political patronage, leaving the needs of the Ogun state residents unattended.
Since May 2023, Abiodun’s administration has been dogged by allegations of electoral misconduct and an inability to effectively govern. The PDP suggests that Abiodun’s preoccupation with maintaining power has led to a lack of focus on the state’s governance.
In response to these developments, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ogun state, emphasized that the people of Ogun state will not be swayed by the alleged misuse of state resources.
Bankole asserts that Abiodun and his supporters will not remain in power, citing both electoral infractions during the March governorship elections and perceived incompetence in governance as reasons for their skepticism.
As the Ogun Governorship Election Tribunal’s judgment looms, the political landscape in Ogun state appears to be growing increasingly tense, with the PDP vowing to stand against what they see as efforts to undermine the will of the people.
